Re: Scottish Independence...
Essentially, Abbott whipped 'everyone' into a frenzy about illegal immigrants ('stop the boats' and also they're not 'illegal' (and granted Labor's policy in this regard is shit too), the budget 'black hole' (doesn't exist, plus our treasurer at the time had been voted best of the year by some economic fellows for getting us through the GFC relatively unscathed) and by targeting Labor's 'infighting' (which was more or less blown out of proportion by the media, which Murdoch owns the majority of and who is best buds with Tones).
Since the election, there's just been a wealth of shitty things him and the Coalition have said and done. Related to this thread, he warned against Scottish independence a few weeks ago. His treasurer said that poor people can afford in increase in fuel prices because poor people don't drive cars, a sentiment that he held to for three days before it become apparent that he'd managed to piss off every motherfucker, including people in his party. Despite all the talks of a budget emergency and too much debt, they've gotten rid of the mining tax and the carbon tax, they wanted to get rid of a 'green bank' scheme that funded renewable energy projects and was set to return them a bunch of money, and the Coalition in general have a tendency to privatize every single government asset.
There's also the issues of blatant corruption, like Abbott's daughter receiving a $60, 000 scholarship at a private university (as well as her master's fees waived and a job at the university which is entirely lacking in a job description), which is set to benefit greatly if the Coalition manages to get certain higher education reforms through parliament.
Basically, it looks like he's fucking over the majority of Australians in order to appease the likes of Gina Rindheart and Murdoch, and he's doing so in such away that is really easy to see for anyone who cares to look, yet is woefully under reported in the media.

We don't need any of that environment saving nonsense, Mr Abbott says Global Warming is a load of crap. It's just not happening! Where's the proof?! You can't trust science and statistics.
Boat people are evil. All they want to do is come to this country for a free ride. Which is why we've made it illegal for asylum seekers to have jobs when they do finally get their visas. They're not even allowed to volunteer. We can't have them taking jobs from Australians, that's not "fair" and in keeping with the principles upon which this nation was founded. So you see it's clear they are coming here just to bludge off the system. They'd be much better off in their own countries, after all for many of them they only risk a %50 chance of being murdered or tortured upon their return. Those are good odds, especially considering you've got a 100% chance of suffering dehumanising psychological torture and even death at our off-shore detention facilities.
Speaking of bludgers, what about all the poor people in this country? How dare they be poor. They must also be stupid and lazy to have not put in the effort to be born into wealth and privilege. We're going to take away their welfare support and rights to free education. Maybe THEN they'll show a little bit of motivation and effort. Also rises in petrol won't hurt them because statistics show that poor people don't drive very much, or very far. We're purely talking about urban poor people now, the one's that have access to public transport. And if we go into rural and remote areas where people need to have cars and drive very far, the poorest people there are all Indigenous. They also don't have cars, they walk everywhere. You can trust our science and statistics.
Hey guys, we stopped all the boats! Aren't we amazing. Now Team Australia no longer has to fear all these smelly queue jumpers coming here and taking jobs and infringing on our way of life. There is nothing more to fear!
Except for all these home grown terrorists. You know the ones. We don't want to point fingers at any particular religious group, but they're certainly not Christians and you can recognise them from their beards and their dusky skin tone *wink wink*. In fact let's pass some new laws expanding the powers police and other agencies have when dealing with anyone suspected of "terrorist" activity. Furthermore we're going to raise the terror alert level! We're not quite at brown pants level yet, but it's HIGH. The highest it's ever been. Congratulations you can no longer put rubbish in the bin at the railway station. Why? Cause we said so. It has absolutely nothing to do with raising fear votes, or attempting to pass laws which slowly erode your freedoms. But members of Team Australia have nothing to worry about. Just don't ask any questions about the Trans-Pacific Partnership, that's terrorist talk. Trust your Government to keep you safe and have your best interests at heart.

Re: Scottish Independence...
Jensen, are you saying she looks amazing? Because if not, then she looks not amazing. :]
Boat people thing still makes no sense to me since the majority of immigrants arrive by plane and we don't care. Basically it's not who you are, but how you get to Australia? We're boat racists. Such a non-issue, gg Australia.
Anyway, Scottish Independence. Cmon guys, stop venting about how shit our Government is.

For a woman her age in a high stress job I think she's very attractive. More so than most other female politicians.Wimble wrote:Jensen, are you saying she looks amazing? Because if not, then she looks not amazing. :]

Re: Scottish Independence...
I guess the point I was trying to make was her appearance was an issue (as in, was talked about in the media). Whether it was good or bad or whatever is irrelevant, its just a double-standard.

Real talk though Scotland ain't going to leave the UK and never was. Maybe they kind of want to, maybe they should, but in the end it's too much of a hassle. People always vote for comfort.

Re: Scottish Independence...
It probably came down to the terrified last-minute squeals from the three main UK parties all promising maximum devolution if Scotland stayed, which I believe is what the majority of the people wanted but was not initially being offered by Westminster. We'll see if a) they keep their promise, and b) they start to regret making it in the first place.
Personally, I think a more Federal system is the way to go, rather than four-five independent countries.
