Star Citizen

Post by Browncoat Fox »

So Rat is already on board with his piloting skills. Grel just purchased a ship. Fox bought himself a nice big hauling transport. Salo has some interest still I think. Who else wants to explore the 'verse? The game is a big pile of promises right now, with a hangar module to see any finished ships you may have pledged  for early (everything is available in game, you don't have to spend real money unless you just want a nicer ship to start with). Basically, this game is trying to be every space sci-fi genre you can think of. After the hangar module, a dogfighting alpha module will release soon (next month?), then a social module so we can visit eachothers hangars and social hubs like cantinas, then the FPS portion of the game (for pirate boarding and on ground fighting), then they will bring it all together for Beta which is the Persistent Universe (basically the MMO portion), as well as a single player (with co-op) campaign that will probably be released episodically to predate the Persistent Universe.

Over 100 star-systems to explore, plenty of ships already (I think they plan about 100 ready at launch), everything highly customization, larger ships will be crewed by friends and/or NPCs, and plenty of playstyles catered to (dogfighter, smuggler, legit transport/trader, miner, pirate, bounty hunters). You can see influence from every sci-fi show and genre you can probably imagine (this is made by Chris Roberts, the guy who did the Wing Commander series that I never played).

Two starter ships to choose from at launch:

Coming soon, it isn't fully modeled yet.

Here is my beauty (in a touched up concept art):

Check it out if you aren't familiar with it. Has a lot of great ideas and promises (even Oculus Rift support).

Grel is all aboard the hype train and doesn't have a computer that can run the alpha modules.

Time to buy a desktop.

It's always interested me but this early access / current fragmentation of the game thing is just too early for me to really care that much about it right now.

Sound logic. I was doing the same until today.

Don't get in a chat room with Fox. He makes you spend money.

I don't think the developers are progressive enough to allow ships to be pandas. Kind of close minded, IMO.

I will probably be more interested in it when it's closer to release, also

Pretty sure my bros have already bought every available ship and they have finally stopped talking to me about it and trying to convince me to spend my money too!

It's not that I'm not interested, it's Chris Roberts doing what he does best. I'm actually kind of excited about that. But I no longer listen to what game developers promise pre-release and I sure as heck don't pre-order shit anymore!

I'll have to wait til Uni break to play regardless, so by the time I do get to it, everyone else will probably be bored with it  :P

You're terrible at university. Real human beings use it as an excuse to play every single video game they can get their hands on.

And if you went to Sobchak's school, you'd play them while high as a kite too.

This is smart, I try to take everything promised with a grain of salt. The potential is pretty exciting though, and I get on the hype train pretty regularly, only to eventually temper my expectations again. I don't even plan to play often, just hope for the VR potential of a space-sim and a big ship.

Also, I think I am addicted to theorycrafting games pre-release, and then never actually playing them.

...seriously, I think its a problem.

Pretty sure Batman, Smash Bros and Wow are what I'll be playing in 2014. And Guacamelee because fuck you all it's great.

Grel was saying he's hearing bad stuff about Wildstar. It'd be great to have someone on this forum in the beta so we could get some impressions. Oh well.

If such a person did exist, I'm sure he'd like to give some more direct information based on what people want to know, rather than just saying what amounts to 'there are bugs, but it's fun'.

I bought the cheapest ship that will allow me to play early.  It may not look like much, but it's probs not got it where it counts.
