I think it was probably a very smart choice to replace the native tribespeople with white people and particularly Walton Goggins. Walton Goggins should be in everything. He almost pulls off the, "open the tomb!" line.
The best line is definitely the bearded Mcnulty saying, "You must stop the GLOBAL GENOCIDE... Laura, promise me." The stakes is a global genocide, people.

They should keep the friend as the focus of the mystery, I think that was a good plot choice.
