I am currently playing through both of the first games. I was about to kill Kayran last night but the stupid weather in Oklahoma made my power go out for like 5 hours.

I never actually played the first game. Maybe I could play it this week while I die waiting.

Getting witcher 3 on ps4 because no way could my pc run it. Which is fine because I actually think the combat--at least of the second game--plays better with controller.

It takes a while to get into because it's nothing like the 2nd game. It's a lot longer than The Witcher 2 if you do everything, though. My first playthrough was like 60 hours.

How quick can I finish Witcher 2? Bear in mind that I've owned it for maybe a year and I'm still in the tutorial level

You could beat it in like 20 hours if you just ran through story, but I would just jump straight into the witcher 3. And watch/read a recap of the first two games (which I did for the first game). They're saying you don't need to have played the first two and that this witcher is the best one for a newbie to jump in. There's a Keep-esque part at the start of witcher 3, apparently, where you can decide the decisions in witcher 2 and what the world state will be. I think gamespot said the were going to post a guide to those decisions and what each one will mean.

Or since you're playing on pc, you could always just download a save file.

Witcher 2 is awesome. No reason to skip it just so you can get to W3 sooner.
Or alternatively play it after W3 if the hype train is too much to handle.

I also recommend the first game. Probably as the first one you play, because it sets up the world pretty well. It's about two times as long as W2 though.

W2 is awesome but I understand why it's not as approachable. The tutorial section is like half the game and explains nothing to newcomers (i didn't pay the first). And the story doesn't get interesting until after you kill the kayran. I came to like the combat but a lot of people don't and I understand. It's certainly clunky and can be annoying (WHY ARE YOU USING THAT SWORD, GERALT, I SAID SILVER. YOU'RE THE WITCHER U SHOULD KNOW WHAT SWORD KILLS WHAT).

Basically--if you're down to play the old games, go for it. But it's certainly not required. And the word about this game is that it's the most approachable of the three.

Aryan La Vallette? Single combat is the best way to go about it. If you take him alive, Foltest has him tortured and once you free him he commits suicide by blowing up part of the castle, so it's like what's the point

shit. I know there's a scenario in which you can free him in the torture chamber and make up and that he might show up in witcher 3. But this confirms my indifference to letho killing Foltest. Basically, if Letho hadn't done it I was about ready to myself.
I've heard Letho, if alive, can be found in W3
Roach or Iorveth?

I think Aryan survives, you only meet him on the Roche path again though.
