There was some IGN video about how thrilled the editor was spending 10 minutes fighting a boss with two pugs. The fight looked boring as balls like they were just whittling away at a massive hp pool but the IGN editor was super thrilled about it. Thought it was the greatest thing ever. Large HP pools? Such innovation. Anyway, based on his reaction I'm pretty sure this game is going to be the second coming of Christ. 11/10 time to buy some prayer beads.

Well.

I want to say first: I like the game.

But, it is definitely not the "game changer" that it's being hyped to be--it's a next-gen Halo game, that's it. You can't fly the ships (at least not in the early stages, but I'm thinking you can't, period. Maybe there's a later mission/multiplayer level that is space combat, but I doubt it.)

So far, you see your ship flying in the loading screen. That's all it does.

There are actually ground vehicles. They function as mounts. You can use them in PVE and larger PVP maps, where they're useless.

The PVP is exactly like Halo, and it's a lot of fun.

The PVE is exactly like Borderlands, and it's okay.

The game is not an MMO, or anything close. You party up, click on the mission/game mode you want to play, and role. I say it's a next gen halo game because co op and multiplayer is seamless, your character and weapons are upgradable (how much so remains a mystery in the early beta; you complete a mission you unlock a reward, get slightly better gun, eh). It's cool that you can get rewards/win loot in versus, though. And the loot from SP and MP is completely transferable to the other.

we only got one PVP game mode in the beta, and it's a standard capture and hold points on the map/domination type thing. I'm curious to see how endgame, max-level PVP matches will go. At high levels will the game become unbalanced? It's a small sample size, but the classes don't seem well balanced. That said, so far, the only thing distinctive between them is what your special power is, and what sort of armor you can wear.

Character creation is meh. It's not offensively bad, but it won't make bado happy.

But if you're down to play Bungie's version of Borderlands, you'll like it. If you bought a ps4 way too early and are desperate for something to play on it, it just might do. A lot of this depends on how good and diverse the missions and pvp will be in the full game. The missions included in the alpha (there are only two, I think), are very Borderlandsy--with the notable improvement of having peter dinklage be the little droid following you around and droning off exposition that doesn't make sense and that you're only half listening too and half checking the score of the NBA game HOLY CRAP THE SPURS ARE WINNING BY HOW MUCH.

So, there it is. It's going to be one of those games where IGN gives it a huge score, and then there will be a backlash from the "hardcore" gaming community, complaining that it's just a borderlands/halo clone, and we'll lose sight of the fact that the game is decently fun.

Yeah, sounds like a game that you might pick up if you already own the console but not a system seller.

I'll get a PS4 eventually but the library just isn't good on it or the Xbox. Maybe PS Now will be its system seller.
