Why are University Professors such ambiguous dickheads?
I have an assignment due on Sunday night, that is worth 70% of my overall grade and I have no fucking idea what I'm supposed to be doing because the instructions are so bloody vague. Pretty much every other student I have spoken with this Semester is either also struggling to figure out what the hell we are meant to be doing, and the rest just don't care.
Maybe it's an exercise in preparing us for the workforce where apparently we will get zero support or guidance :-\
Don't mind me, I just needed to vent.
And I'm procrastinating.
It's amazing how many cups of tea you can drink in an hour when you're looking for excuses to walk away from your computer.

What's the question, and have you tried emailing the Prof? Sometimes I get vague questions, but the tutor normally says that they're vague so that you can formulate your own question/hone it down. It's weird if you're getting no support at all.

There's no question. Myself and most of the other students have spent the entire semester asking questions, asking for EXPLICIT instruction to no avail.Thaed wrote:What's the question, and have you tried emailing the Prof? Our lecturer doesn't want to stifle our creativity by putting constraints on us. Also half of the shit we've done this semester wasn't even outlined in the assessment criteria.
I dunno. I'm just throwing an amalgam of shit together and hoping for the best. Not to mention, despite it being worth 70%, they've explicitly stated to keep it concise cause they won't spend more than 5 minutes looking at the end product. So we need to discuss what we've done over the last 8 weeks and demonstrate how much we have learned from all the readings (2 per week) and education theory discussed in the course. Then we have to provide explicit evidence of the teaching we did and how it links to the Graduate Standards for Teachers (of which there would be around 50 or more).
But somehow I gotta keep this all down to 5 minutes worth of digestible material.
Fuck it anyway, I don't think I'm going to maintain my GPA this semester anyway so who cares.

O.o
Glad I dropped teaching, then. If I were to go out on a limb, you might be best off picking out something specific and going into a lot of detail on it. Then again, I don't know the course or the criteria, so this is probably pretty bogus advice that you should ignore completely.
At any rate, good luck!

I had a public affairs class where I was assigned the city hall beat and then told I couldn't get higher than a C because my beat was too easy.
I dropped it and took it under a different professor.

I once was assigned a 12 page paper over an experiment we WOULD do if we had the resources and whatnot. I got to 5 pages and put a picture of a cat on the 6th page, ended the class with a B. I'm pretty sure the teacher secretly loved me.

It's one of the core units I have to do for secondary education. To be honest I (and pretty much everyone else) has been utterly surprised by the amount of work we've had to do in this course, we all thought we would just have a couple of days of professional development prior to doing a 4 week placement in a school. Essentially we have to do four weeks of unpaid full-time work, which is not really an issue, we all knew about that coming into the course. And this is basically what all the third year education students were telling me they did last year.fallenchicken wrote:What's the class?
THIS year they seem to have decided that a four week placement (and all the paperwork, police checks and general time spent organising the bloody thing) just isn't enough freaking work for us.
If this were an elective unit I would have dropped it weeks ago. Unfortunately I have to do it in order to get my teaching qualifications.

Is corporal punishment still allowed in Australia?
Do they teach you how to cane students?
I bet they teach you how to cane students.

More like the teacher tells them to go get a switch then a giant spider eats them aliveisgrelindisguise wrote:Is corporal punishment still allowed in Australia?
