So, I'm working on a living dex, and I have few scruples when it comes to obtaining event legendaries. A guy on black market trades said he'd gen me four events (which happens to be exactly the amount that I need) if I breed him a 5IV toxic spikes bankball protean Froakie. Now, here's the problem. He gave me a female Froakie in a friendball with toxic spikes, so that was sorted. Problem is, the Froakie has torrent instead of protean. So, I can pass on the friendball from the female Froakie, but the ability is wrong. Additionally, so far as I'm aware (I checked after breeding 15 of them), a male cannot pass down its hidden ability unless it is bred with a Ditto. So, the only way to breed a new Protean Froakie is to either find a female with its hidden ability (can't use bankball) or breed a male with its hidden ability with a Ditto (again, can't pass on bankball).

So, basically, am I missing something, or is this essentially impossible?

Males pass on hidden abilities too, but only with Ditto- Forget 5th gen entralink RNG, you can now pass down that hidden ability even if you're male. Note that pairing an Impostor Ditto with a non-hidden ability Pokemon will NOT generate a child with a hidden ability. Also, a hidden ability male will not pass down it's ability if it's paired with a regular female of the same species.

Female non-Ditto Pokemon now pass along their Pokeballs- This is a pretty minor change, but if you enjoy having matching / contrasting Pokeballs, your bred Pokemon can have them too. All female Pokemon will pass down their Pokeballs, unless it's a Ditto acting as a female. I recommend that if you're breeding anything that will eventually use Return when fully trained, you breed it in a Luxury Ball to get the happiness up very quickly.

Do you have a Friend Safari for Froakie? I probably have a mummy with Protean, but not in a Friend Ball. I have no idea how to get a Friend Ball in XY though...

Yeah, Friend Ball is the issue, pretty sure it can only be hacked onto a Froakie since they're from gen 2 (4), and you can't transfer items.

Might just ask the guy and hope that it was an honest mistake :/.

Sounds like hackery bullshit to me, if he gave you one in a Friend Ball to begin with.

What Legendaries do you need?

Keldeo, Deoxys, Manaphy, Meloetta. The hackery involved in getting them doesn't really bother me given that we're at an inherently unfair advantage of obtaining them because we don't live in Japan.
