For those that don't know, I start my last year of college in two weeks as a News-Editorial Journalism and Sports Media double major

I've been able to pay for three years by myself without loans or anything, but going into this summer, I knew I didn't have the money to pay for my last year. I've been trying to figure out where to come up with the cash, but I haven't had a lot of luck.

However, I just got a call from the financial aid people at my college to say I just got the complete Pell Grant for my last year, all $5,300 of it. It doesn't cover all of my fees, but it's enough.

I can afford school now. Go me.

Also is the grant something you have to pay back? I know some are like scholarships, and others are like no interest loans.

Nope, don't go to OU. I go to Oklahoma State. OU's journalism school isn't accredited.

You never have to pay back any grant, to my knowledge. I don't have to pay back mine, and I know federal grants don't have to be paid back.

If somebody is disguising a loan as a grant, then it isn't a grant.

The Pell Grant is a federal grant given based on financial need. It's free money that directly pays off my school balance. I logged into our bursar system just now and was happy to see I've been credited with $5,300.

Yeah I have some friends that have to pay back "grants" for law school, in reality they are just loans that don't have interest for 20 years given from the university if you qualify.


I know a lot of people that go to OK State, I went to Highschool in Texas 5 minutes from the Oklahoma border.
