Tonight's the night. At least once a week there's a day I can't fall asleep. This might be because I had Thai food for breakfast, half a
Vermonster for lunch and Mexican food for dinner.
These are the nights.

I sleep an average of 4 hours a night last night I slept 3 hours straight, after a hellish week of sleeping 1-3 hours a night I'll end up sleeping 12 hours on sunday. If sleeping disorders had a face I would punch mine until it was KO and then piss on it's knocked out body.

Oh, my man, don't even fret. I'm constantly pulling 4 hours a night in my most hectic terms, I just have (fuckin'... spelling... and shit) problems sleeping. Everyone always told me when I was growing up that my father just coasts through life, and now during college I really realized that I'm the same way, but I would say I'm much more "sleepwalking" than "coasting."

Alcohol mostly does the trick for me, When I need to sleep 12 hours straight, half a bottle of rum, and I sleep like a baby.

I used to have insomnia really really badly, do some exercise in the mornings. Endorphins make you feel better during the day and it makes you sleepier in the evenings.
My insomnia was mostly around when I was playing WoW 16 hours a day and had no job/life/friends etc.

Exercise and hydration will help. Also, try not to stimulate the mind before sleeping, read something factual I've heard helps.

Awh...no more porn before bed? What if it's factual porn, like home made stuff?
Honestly I whine like a castrated walrus if I don't get at least 6 hours, and I can only go about three days before I need an 8-10 hour.

I do 6 hours or less while I'm at uni, but then as soon as holidays start I seem to suddenly sleep from midnight to 11 am, probably because I go from being busy to being lazy as fuck. I really get into a pattern though, and it certainly doesn't help that my work keeps me up until 3am on the weekends but then on weekdays I'll have to get up at around 6 or 7.
Stupid sleeping patterns...

tbh I would find life ALOT simpler if we had 30 hour days.
It's time to devise a way to slow down the earths spins a little.

Try the uberman schedule. It'll blow your fucking mind - but it's hard as hell to get into the routine.
Basically, you force yourself to sleep 20 minutes every 4 hours. Once you get super tired enough, your body will drop immediately into REM sleep, then set a crazy loud alarm for 20 minutes later. I did it for like a month, but I couldn't keep it up - bad self control.
Apparently you get all the good side effects of sleep deprivation (creativity goes way up, less need for food etc) without any of the negatives, like diabetes, insanity and death.

Back when I was doing 15 hour days at a restaurant, I was finishing at about 12-1am would get home absolutely knackered but couldn't sleep still about 3-4am, cause my brain just wouldn't stop buzzing. It became apparent why so many chefs are alcoholics or drug dependant. I'm so glad I don't work nights anymore. I usually get about 6 hours sleep now.
So yeah, I would recommend not doing anything that stimulates the brain a couple hours before you wanna sleep. You gotta relax and unwind. I finish work now and go for a run with my dog, just to make sure I am good and tired in the evenings. Getting probably 5 hours on average, unless I'm really agitated. I only get about 3 nights out of the month where I can't sleep at all. But I figure that's probably normal. Sometimes I think stressing out about not getting sleep actually leads me to not sleeping so....

Only time I can't sleep is if I miss my window, which happens to be midnight my time. If I am up later than that for some reason it is hard for me to fall asleep. Before then... out easy. Unless it is hot.

This is a good point, I supppose I'm the same. Does anyone else get hyperactive if they haven't slept? I tend to get kind of really tired, but then at some point my brain seems to over-compensate for the tiredness and I get really hyper-alert and stuff.
I don't mind though. Anything is better than when I lived in Scotland and didn't get any sleep all summer long. That was when I went crazy.

Hey, I'm not ragging on Scotland. I'm just saying I need a proper light cycle. No sleep in summer and crushing depression from lack of sun in winter. No wonder everyone over there has a drinking problem.

It's a (nonstandard) word, believe it or not, kind of like the word "ain't," and it's just one of the most redundant words in the English language. Which is why I said it was a dumb word in the first place. The nazi in me winces when people say it, and I of course have to imitate.

*shrugs* I love the winters...it's amazing what a girl will do in the dark when she's trying to fight depression.
