Somehow Jon Snow made a huge battle a boring episode. Worst episode of the series 1/10 would not wish on Pewps.

Yeah, seemed like a pretty short episode because of Sam talking about Ygritte's feet and Maester Aemon telling us stuff we've already heard. Her death was satisfying I guess but the ending was such a let down.

That and Jon's reasons for going out to find Mance are two book deviations that I'm not liking. I'll wait until I see next week's ep before I bitch too much, though.

Still thought it was a decent episode, pretty exciting to watch. Not sure how they're going to cram everything in next ep, though.

I swear, the Crows dropped faster than flies. I bet that if you actually counted there'd be like 15 left now.
Wildlings are disorganized wankers with bad gear, they shouldn't take Crows one on one and win every time.

And the giant bow was silly. Giant chain as well. They killed Grenn because Donal Noye doesn't exist in the show. And Pyp because they never made him a real character.

Nobody knew what his bro's names were anyway. I read the books and I don't even remember who was who. The one with the face I liked the best died (the dude who went down in the tunnel to fight the giant), so that was sad. I loved the way the actual battle was set up-the ominous burning out in the distance, encroaching, was very well done. But yeah, the casting of Jon Snow continues to haunt the show--otherwise the casting is impeccable, but he has the same facial animation as wood. They can only hint at a battle of this size, so essentially making it a smaller battle inside the keep was necessary--and they did the same thing with Blackwater.

Now that I really think about it, they probably will resolve the battle next episode. Imagine how draining this was on their budget--I doubt they'd set it up two huge armies again next season just to film one final sequence. Unless they filmed it and are just going to sit on it for a year, I think we'll see the battle resolved next episode.

Which makes next episode really crowded, with stuff that I want to happen. And I'm nervous that something that I want to happen won't happen, with the amount of stuff that they're stuffing into episode 10.

Why end on the cliffhanger? The episode was shorter than usual.

They killed off all the interesting Night's Watch characters. Poop at them, those scenes are going to be even more tedious and boring than they already were.

At least they didn't kill Tormund.

In watching the last episode and the final scene fading out with Jon walking off into the snow, I honestly thought that was the conclusion of the Wall story for this season. And I was hoping it would be, because there is so much that they need to crowbar into the episode next week. But just watched the preview and unfortunately not the case. I was fine with leaving the wall unresolved til next season (because, like Dany's storyline, it never really seems to go anywhere anyway) there are bigger fish to fry imo!

And yeah, thank goodness they didn't kill Tormund. As for the others, don't particularly care. They were only minor background players. I assume the show runners did it to evoke some sort of emotional reaction and sense of loss, since no-one emotionally connects with Jon Snow. How else could they create suspense and tension other than by putting other characters in harms way?

And Ygritte's death was a little bit sad, but honestly there was never hope of any future for Jon and Ygritte anyway. Doomed from the start, so it's no-where near as upsetting as something on the scale of the Red Wedding, or Oberyn's death.

The title of the final episode makes me pretty excited though!

The final ep is apparently 66 minutes long, so it's going to be crammed, but at least it'll run extra. I'm thinking Sansa, Littlefinger/Ramsey, Reek are done for the season, but it seems like we'll check in with everyone else.

Some people on the forums have spotted what might end up being a pretty big deviation from the books in the preview (I'm too obsessed with this show). I won't spoil it beyond that, but it's interesting. I hope it doesn't lead to someone extra dying.

The way I look at it is, they'll either do it next season, or they talked to Martin and realized it's not really going anywhere, and cut it completely. It would have been a cool cliffhanger, but I liked Arya on the boat. Only complaint is I felt the Tyrion escape was rushed. I liked the Mance scene. Mance + Davos & Stannis will hopefully make Jon Snow interesting.

Actually I hated the Bran scene and the children of the forest. But I hate that stuff in the books, too. I hate omniscient, prophetic characters. It's like, bro, if you knew Jojen was going to die on your front lawn, why didn't you send your little elves to go out and help him? He died literally right in front of your tree, to save him your elves would have had to come out a few seconds earlier. WHY DID YOU LET HIM DIE?
I'm glad he died though.

Also, yeah that's a good point about Stannis/Davos/Mance giving Jon Snow more to do. Kit Harrington takes some blame but I don't think his character has been put in positions to do anything but pout. This should be a nice change of pace, but who knows if Stannis stepping into the Watch isn't just going to breed more of that shit.

I'll defer to the book-readers though as to how deep Jon Snow's supposed to be.

Dany still boring. Bran still boring, BUT Jojen's death was fantastic. Stabby-stab-stab! Emmy for that Skele.

Brienne vs the Hound - did not see that coming but it was so worth it. A great deviation from the books. And the conclusion of Arya and the Hounds' "friendship" was heaps more effective in the the show than in the novels.

So I have to say, the deviations they make in the show usually pay off. Disappointed at the lack of the cliffhanger I think most readers were expecting, but we'll see what happens next season.
